Doctor of Chiropractic

Pre and post pregnancy treatment is of utmost importance for a mother or an expectant mother. During pregnancy, the female anatomy and physiology is hard-wired to release a hormone known as Relaxin, which relaxes the ligaments and joint capsules in the pelvic girdle to allow safe and complete childbirth through the birth canal; allowing the pelvic girdle to expand enough during childbirth to allow baby enough room to safely journey through the birth canal.

Once mum and baby are safe after a successful childbirth thanks to the careful eye of medical professionals in the hospitals, the pelvic girdle, ligaments and joint capsules try their best to settle into their original positions but often the joint movement and functionality of the pelvic girdle is not where it once was and requires manual treatment to restore healthy movement and biomechanics.

If left untreated, the loss of pelvic girdle biomechanics, as well as the physical strain during pregnancy, causes a condition known as SPD or Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. SPD can cause difficulty walking or a wrenching type pain feeling as though the pelvis is tearing apart.

Chiropractic is highly effective at restoring the altered biomechanics and creating a healthy anatomical and physiological environment so that the pelvic girdle can heal and pain relief can be established.
